1st Lieutenant David Everest

Everest was born in New York on April 3, 1840. He was residing in Evansville (Rock County), Wisconsin when he enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on September 13, 1861. Everest enlisted as a corporal and was promoted to sergeant and 1st sergeant during his tour of duty. His final promotion to 1st lieutenant occurred on February 15, 1865. Everest served over 4 years before being discharged on November 24, 1865 at San Antonio, Texas.
The 13th Wisconsin Infantry was organized and mustered at Janesville on October 17, 1861. The unit was assigned to duty in several states including Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee. Much of their duty was guarding railroads and garrison duty.
Everest died on March 22, 1931 at the age of 90 years. He is buried in the Unadilla Cemetery in Unadilla (Otoe County), Nebraska. Everest was a member of the Wadsworth Post (#21) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Syracuse, Nebraska.
