Company I, 185th Ohio Infantry
Fosler was born in Hocking County, Ohio on July 14, 1848. The 16-year old enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on February 20, 1865. He served about 7 months and was discharged on September 29, 1865 at Lexington, Kentucky.
The 185th Ohio Infantry was organized and mustered at Camp Chase, Ohio on February 25, 1865. The unit was sent to Kentucky and assigned to guard duty at various locations.
Fosler died on July 1, 1931 at the age of 82 years. He is buried in the Blue Hill Cemetery in Blue Hill (Webster County), Nebraska. Fosler was a member of the Burnside Post (#79) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Bladen, Nebraska.
