Corporal David Fouts

Company L, 8th Ohio Cavalry

Fouts was born on June 9, 1845. He enlisted in the regiment on February 21, 1864 and was mustered on April 9, 1864. He served about 16 months before being discharged on July 30, 1865 at Clarksburg, West Virginia. Fouts was promoted to corporal on May 23, 1865.

The 8th Ohio Cavalry was organized from the 44th Ohio Infantry on January 4, 1864 at Camp Denison. The unit was assigned to Virginia and West Virginia and was involved in several major battles in 1864. Some of them include:

Battle of Winchester (VA) (September 19, 1864).

Battle of Fisher’s Hill (VA) (September 22, 1864).

Battle of Cedar Creek (VA) (October 19, 1864).

Fouts died on February 14, 1934 at the age of 88 years. He is buried in the Blue Springs Cemetery in Blue Springs (Gage County), Nebraska. Fouts was a member of the Scott Post (#37) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Blue Springs.
