Frederick was born in Germany on April 5, 1844. He was residing in Brookville (Franklin County), Indiana when he enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on February 1, 1865. Frederick served 7 months. He was discharged on August 31, 1865 at Baltimore, Maryland.
The 146th Indiana Infantry was organized and mustered at Indianapolis on March 9, 1865. The unit was sent to West Virginia and became part of the Army of the Shenandoah. It was assigned to duties in various locations within West Virginia.
Frederick died on March 23, 1933 at the age of 88 years. He is buried in the Wood River Cemetery in Wood River (Hall County), Nebraska.
