Fox was born in Indiana on June 28, 1847. The 16-year old Fox enlisted and was mustered in the 116th Indiana Infantry on July 30, 1863. Fox served 7 months. He was discharged on March 1, 1864 at Lafayette, Indiana. He re-entered the Union Army as a member of the 16th Indiana Light Artillery on March 10, 1864. Fox served an additional 1 year and 4 months. He was discharged on July 5, 1865 at Indianapolis.
Fox died on December 11, 1939 at the age of 92 years. He is buried in the Waco Cemetery in Waco (York County), Nebraska. Fox was a member of the Yates Post (#41) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Waco.
