Lytle was born in Fairmount (Grant County), Indiana on July 16, 1839. He was residing in Tipton County, Indiana when he enlisted and mustered in the regiment on April 25, 1861. Lytle served his 3 month enlistment before he was discharged on August 4, 1861 at Indianapolis.
The 10th Indiana Infantry (3 months/1861) was organized at Indianapolis between April 22 and April 25, 1861. The unit was assigned to General McClellan’s Army of West Virginia. It was mustered out on August 2, 1861.
Lytle died on September 8, 1930 at the age of 91 years. He is buried in the Lewiston Cemetery in Lewiston (Pawnee County), Nebraska.
