Lowry (also spelled Lowrey) was born in Decatur (Brown County), Ohio on October 14, 1843. He was residing in McLean County, Illinois when he enlisted in the regiment on August 7, 1862. Lowry was mustered on August 20, 1862 and served nearly 3 years. He was discharged on July 17, 1865 at Galveston, Texas.
The 94th Illinois Infantry was organized and mustered in McLean County on August 20, 1862. The unit was part of the Siege of Vicksburg (MS) (June 10-July 4, 1863). It was involved in the Siege of Spanish Fort and Fort Blakely (AL) (March 26-April 8, 1865).
Lowry died on October 29, 1932 at the age of 89 years. He is buried in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Winside (Wayne County), Nebraska. Lowry was a member of the Casey Post (#5) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Wayne, Nebraska.
