Parish was born in Wisconsin in March of 1842. He was residing in Avoca (Iowa County), Wisconsin when he enlisted and mustered in the regiment as a corporal on February 3, 1862. Parish enlisted as a corporal and served 3 years and 6 months. He was discharged on August 9, 1865 at Richmond, Virginia.
The 19th Wisconsin Infantry was organized and mustered at Madison on April 30, 1862. During Parish’s enlistment, the unit was in several major battles and campaigns. Some of them include:
Battle of Drury’s Bluff (VA) (May 14-16, 1864).
Siege of Petersburg (VA) (June-August 1864).
Battle of Fair Oaks (VA) (October 27-28, 1864). Regimental losses were 23 killed, 33 wounded, and 92 were captured or reported missing.
Parish died on January 14, 1931 at the age of 88 years. He is buried in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery in Grand Island (Hall County), Nebraska.
