Corporal Samuel L Rife
Company F, 138th Illinois Infantry (100 days, 1864)
Rife was born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania on October 11, 1844. He was residing in Peru (LaSalle County), Illinois when he enlisted in the regiment as a corporal. Rife mustered in June 21, 1864 and served until October 14, 1864. He was discharged at Camp Butler (Springfield), Illinois.
The 138th Illinois Infantry was organized at Camp Wood, Illinois on June 21, 1864 for 100 days of service. The regiment was sent to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and remained there until October 1864. Company F was deployed at Weston, Missouri until August 3, 1864.
Rife died on July 11, 1938 at the age of 93 years. He is buried in the Parkview Cemetery in Hastings (Adams County), Nebraska. Rife was a member of the Strickland Post (#13) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Hastings.
