Private Silas Rodefer
Company F, 50th Ohio Infantry
Rodefer (also spelled Radefer) was born in Ohio on January 10, 1844. He enlisted in the regiment on August 22, 1862 and was mustered 8 days later. Rodefer was discharged on June 26, 1865.
The 50th Ohio Infantry was organized and mustered at Camp Dennison, Ohio on August 27, 1862. During Rodefer’s enlistment, the regiment was involved in many major battles and campaigns. Some of them include:
Battle of Perryville (KY) (October 8, 1862).
Atlanta (GA) Campaign (May 23-September 8, 1864).
Assault on Kenesaw Mountain (GA) (June 27, 1864).
Siege of Atlanta (GA) (July 22-August 25, 1864).’
Battle of Franklin (TN) (November 30, 1864). Regimental losses were 13 killed, 9 wounded, 18 were captured, and 1 reported missing.
Battle of Nashville (TN) (December 15-16, 1864).
Rodefer died on August 17, 1933 at the age of 89 years. He is buried in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Neligh (Antelope County), Nebraska.
