Roudebush (also spelled Rondebush) was born in Ohio on January 11, 1846. He was residing in New London (Henry County), Iowa when he enlisted and mustered in the regiment on May 2, 1864. Roudebush served about 1 year. He was discharged on May 7, 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
The 7th Iowa Cavalry was assigned to the Dakota and Nebraska Territories during the Civil War. Their primary duties included guarding telegraph lines and escorting trains and emigrants. On January 7, 1865, near Julesburg, Colorado, the regiment was involved in a major battle against the plains Indians. Fifteen members of the 7th Iowa Cavalry were lost on that date.
Roudebush died on March 25, 1930 at the age of 84 years. He is buried in the Oshkosh Cemetery in Oshkosh (Garden County), Nebraska.
