Private Lewis F Ruppel
Company I, 47th Iowa Infantry (100 days, 1864)
Ruppel was born in Pennsylvaania on March 11, 1847. He was residing in Mahaska County, Iowa when he enlisted in the regiment on May 10, 1864. Ruppel was mustered on June 4, 1864 and served until September 28, 1864. He was discharged at Davenport, Iowa.
The 47th Iowa Infantry was organized at Davenport on July 13, 1864. The unit was assigned to duties near Helena, Arkansas and was mustered out on September 28, 1864.
Ruppel died on October 6, 1931 at the age of 84 years. He is buried in the Madison Square Cemetery in Taylor (Loup County), Nebraska. Ruppel was a member of the Tucker Post (#96) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Taylor.
