Company H/B, 62nd Illinois Infantry

Seely (also spelled Seelye) was born in Tazewell County, Illinois on November 29, 1845. He was residing in Pekin (Tazewell County), Illinois when he enlisted in the regiment on February 1, 1862. Seely was mustered on April 10, 1862 and served nearly 4 years. He re-enlisted on April 4, 1864 and was discharged on March 6, 1866 at Little Rock, Arkansas.

The 62nd Illinois Infantry was organized and mustered at Camp Dubois (Anna), Illinois on April 10, 1862. The regiment was assigned to duties in several southern states during the War. In July 1865, the unit was moved to Fort Gibson (Cherokee Nation) and stayed there until it was mustered out on March 6, 1866.

Seely died on January 26, 1937 at the age of 91 years. He is buried in the Kearney Cemetery in Kearney (Buffalo County), Nebraska.
