Shock was born in Ohio on December 13, 1844. He enlisted in the regiment on May 2, 1864 and was mustered on May 15, 1864. Shock served a little less than 4 months and was discharged on September 4, 1864 at Camp Cleveland, Ohio.
The 169th Ohio Infantry was organized and mustered at Camp Taylor (Cleveland), Ohio on May 13, 1864. The regiment was assigned to duties relating to the defense of Washington DC. It was part of the repulse of General Early’s attack on Washington on July 11-12, 1864.
Shock died on May 2, 1935 at the age of 90 years. He is buried in the Steele Cemetery in Falls City (Richardson County), Nebraska. Shock was a member of the Veteran’s Post (#84) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Falls City.
