Turner was born in Canada on July 25, 1842. He was residing in Rockford (Winnebago County), Illinois when he enlisted and mustered in the regiment on February 4, 1865. Turner served nearly 1 year before he was discharged on January 20, 1866 at Savannah, Georgia.
The 147th Illinois Infantry as organized at Camp Fry, Illinois for 1 year on February 18, 1865. The unit was assigned to Georgia and spent its’ entire term of duty at that location.
Turner died on April 3, 1930 at the age of 87 years. He is buried in the Pawnee City Cemetery in Pawnee City (Pawnee County), Nebraska.
