Dorsey was born April 26, 1847. He enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on May 2, 1864. Dorsey served 4 months and was mustered out on August 30, 1864.
The 147th Ohio Infantry was organized and mustered at Camp Dennison, Ohio on May 16, 1864. The unit was sent to the Washington DC area and was assigned to the defense of the area. It was involved in the repulse of General Judal Early’s attack on Washington on July 11-12, 1864.
Dorsey died on June 19, 1935 at the age of 88 years. He is buried in the Arborville Rural Cemetery in Arborville (Polk County), Nebraska. At the time of his death, he was the last member of the Graves Post (#97) of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) in Bradshaw, the Dow Post (#235) in Arcadia, and the Ricketts Post (#253) in Arborville.
