Bigelow was born on July 1, 1842. The 19 year old enlisted in the regiment on November 24, 1863 at Georgetown, Michigan. He was mustered on November 27, 1863 and served about 2 years. Bigelow was discharged at Memphis, Tennessee on November 11, 1865.
The 10th Michigan Cavalry was organized at Grand Rapids between September 18 and November 23, 1863. Private Bigelow was reported “missing” from October 15, 1864 to April 24, 1865. Records from the 10th Michigan Cavalry do not indicate that he was captured and the reason(s) for his absence was not explained.
Bigelow died on April 12, 1917 at the age of 74 years. He is buried in the Conley Flat Cemetery in Eli (Cherry County), Nebraska. He was a charter member and probably the last member of the Nonpariel Post (#268) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Nonpariel, Nebraska.
