Hill was born in Ohio on September 22, 1842. The 19 year old enlisted in the regiment on August 18, 1862. He was mustered on Seotember 30, 1862 at the Benton Barracks (St Louis), Missouri. Hill served 33 months and was mustered out on June 28, 1865 at Little Rock, Arkansas.
The 35th Missouri Infantry was organized at the Benton Barracks on December 3, 1862. The unit was ordered to Helena, Arkansas and was assigned to garrison duty at that location until April 1865.
Hill died on April 2, 1924 at the age of 81 years. He is buried in the Bodarc Cemetery in Harrison (Sioux County), Nebraska. He was a charter member and the last member of the Rusk Post (#344) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Harrison.
