Fancher was born in Camden (Oneida County), New York on July 27, 1842. He enlisted in the regiment on August 1, 1862 at Utica, New York. Fancher was mustered in August 13, 1862 and served about 5 months. Fancher was promoted to corporal on October 11, 1862. He was discharged for disability on February 1, 1863.
Fancher died on June 28, 1884 and is buried in the Grand Prairie Cemetery in Johnstown (Brown County), Nebraska. The Fancher Post (#259) of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) in Johnstown was established in 1881. The Post is named for Fancher.
