Private Orin C. Rashaw

Battery K, 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery

Rashaw was born in Vermont in April, 1847 (exact date not available). He was living in Lebanon (Dodge County), Wisconsin when he enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on September 8, 1864. Rashaw was 17 years old at the time of his enlistment. He served about 10 months before being mustered out on June 26, 1865.

The 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery was organized in September and October 1864. The regiment was assigned to duty relating to the defense of Washington DC. Battery K was stationed at Fort Lyon.

Rashaw died on April 18, 1939 at the age of 92 years. He is buried in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery in Grand Island (Hall County), Nebraska. At the time of his death, he was the last member of the Whipple Post (#354) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Burkett, Nebraska.
