Private John A. Driesback
Company K, 42nd Wisconsin Infantry
Driesback was born in New Jersey on November 4, 1846. He was living in Verona (Dane County), Wisconsin when he enlisted and was mustered on August 30, 1864. Driesback served 10 months and was mustered out on June 20, 1865 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin
The 42nd Wisconsin Infantry was organized and mustered at Madison on September 7, 1864. The unit was assigned to post and garrison duty at Cairo, Illinois.
Driesback died on July 21, 1934 at the age of 87 years. He is buried in the Stockham Cemetery in Stockham (Hamilton County), Nebraska. At the time of his death, he was the last member of the Griffin Post (#87) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Stockham.

After his discharge from the 42nd Wisconsin Infantry, he served 2 years in the United States Regular Army.
He married in 1871 and the couple moved to Nebraska the next year. They arrived in the state via a prairie schooner and homesteaded 6 miles west of Stockham.
He lived in the Stockham community for 61 years.
