Series highlights

Coach Rod Dedeaux's Trojans authenticated their No. 1 ranking by beating second-ranked Oklahoma State 1-0 to cap an unbeaten CWS run with the school's third baseball championship - the first program to accomplish that. The Trojans also became only the third team to go 5-0 at the CWS.

USC's John Withers outdueled Littleton Fowler, the tournament's MVP, for his 12th victory in 13 decisions. Withers struck out 13 in his four-hitter without walking a batter.

Fowler, pitching his third game in five days, allowed three hits in 7 2/3 innings - which was just enough for USC.

Twenty-seven-year-old Art Ersepke's two-out single in the eighth scored the game's lone run.

Most Outstanding Player

Littleton Fowler, Oklahoma State

The sophomore left-hander pitched a 23 2/3 innings, allowing only two runs with 13 strikeouts and four walks during the CWS. His only loss of the season came in the title game after pitching for the third time in five days.

Fowler had previously beaten Syracuse with seven innings of relief before eliminating the Orangemen with a one-hitter.
