Lincoln, Neb., Nov. 23—The Camp Dodge gridiron machine gave the Huskers an awful thumping here this afternoon, 23 to 7, completely upsetting the dope by a whirlwind attack in the final period. Up until the fourth period the Huskers had a substantial edge on the soldiers. Both touchdowns scored early in the game were of fluky nation, the Iowans achieving their first one when Howarth fumbled on of Smith's long punts and the ball rolled behind the Nebraska goal, where Lynch fell on it.
The Huskers evened up in the third period when a blocked punt enabled Dana to repeat Lynch's exploit and Howarth had put the Huskers one point to the good by kicking goal.
In the fourth period the Iowans, who up to this time had made only two first downs, opened up, and with the powerful Coughlin carrying the ball, literally smothered Kline's pets.
Movald opened the proceedings by making a pretty kick from placement from the thirty-five-yard line.
Intercepting an attempted forward pass by Nebraska, the soldiers took one unsuccessful smash at the Nebraska line, and then Movald shot a forward pass to Coughlin, who sped fifty yards to a touchdown. The fleet-footed soldier eluded Howarth, the Nebraska safety man, with ease. Movard kicked goal, raising the score to 16 to 7.
Again, just before the close of the game, Coughlin smashed through the Nebraska line, and eluding a half dozen tacklers, ran sixty yards for the third and final touchdown. Movald again kicked goal.
In the first half it was all Nebraska, and four times the Huskers carried the ball to the soldiers' ten-yard line, only to fail to develop the drive needed to put it over. Three times it was inside the five-yard line, and once it needed only a half yard to put it over. But when inches were needed the Huskers were lacking. Coughlin, who was the individual star for the soldiers, is slated to enter Creighton university next year.
Nebraska is 0-1 all-time against Camp Dodge.
