Minneapolis, Minn., Oct., 11—Nebraska sprang a surprise by outplaying Minnesota in the last half here today and earning a 6 to 6 tie with the Gophers. Minnesota scored in the second quarter while the visitors counted in the final.
Minnesota started a battering ram attack in the second period and carried the ball from the middle of the field to the nine-yard line where Haertel went through for a touchdown. Ruben missed the try for goal. Minnesota kicked to Nebraska at the visitors attempted a series of forward pass plays which gained a little ground. Nebraska had the ball on Minnesota’s forty-yard line when the half ended.
Nebraska gave Minnesota a fierce battle in the third period, which was scoreless. A Minnesota fumble gave Nebraska the ball on the Gophers’ forty-yard line. End runs by Dale and Dobson brought the ball to Minnesota’s eight-yard line where the Nebraskans were held for downs.
Nebraska had the ball on Minnesota’s forty-yard line when the period ended.
Nebraska tied the score early in the last half, when Schellenberg, a substitute for McGlasson, ran thirty yards for a touchdown. Goal was missed.
Nebraska is 25-33 all-time against Minnesota.
