Update: It was announced in August 2013 that Mixon would not play for Nebraska.

The Huskers got a commitment from Dimarya Mixon, a three-star defensive end from Mesquite, Texas, who previously was headed for Missouri.

Mixon now will be one of six defensive tackles or defensive ends to sign with NU on Wednesday.

“I’ll be ready to play whenever they need me,” Mixon said. “I’m planning to contribute as soon as I can.” ranks Mixon as the No. 16 strongside defensive end and the No. 46 prospect in Texas. The 6-foot-3, 265-pounder is listed as a defensive tackle by 247Sports, which ranks him No. 37 at that position.

So is his future at end or tackle?

“I’m going to be an end,” Mixon said.

Mixon took an indirect route to becoming the 25th recruit for this Nebraska class.

The two-year starter for West Mesquite High was first committed to Arizona State from May until November. He was then on Missouri’s list from Dec. 8 until this weekend.

The trip to Lincoln won him over.

“I liked a little bit of everything,” Mixon said. “I had a great connection with the coaches. I just loved everything overall. I loved the stadium. I thought it was an NFL stadium.”

Our take: Nebraska’s lack of recent success with moving defensive end prospects up the depth chart means there will probably be at least some kind of wait with Mixon. The other wild card is that Mixon might put on the kind of weight that leads the Huskers to take a look at him at tackle down the road. But the bottom line is that there might be a high ceiling, and Overton says Mixon’s “got all the tools necessary to make him a really good defensive lineman.”
