Dwayne Johnson, a 6-foot-6, 275-pound offensive tackle out of the Houston metro, has made an oral commitment to Nebraska, according to a recruiting service.

Johnson’s coach, Trey Sissom, revealed the news on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 5.

“To me, personally, I think he’s an unbelievable center," Sisson said. "Very smart, very high football IQ.”

Johnson was choosing between Nebraska and Arkansas, a decision that apparently got tougher during the final weeks. Johnson postponed a planned announcement on Jan. 28.

A one-time Purdue commit, Johnson saw increased attention after film of his senior season at Bellaire High School started to make the rounds. He visited Nebraska in January.

He’s the 26th known member of NU’s 2013 recruiting class and the fifth true offensive lineman. All four major recruiting services rate Johnson as a three-star prospect.

Our take: Nebraska is bringing in two junior-college offensive linemen in this class, which no doubt takes some of the pressure off the four high school recruits. Johnson will definitely benefit from a redshirt season and the chance to go through the system and reap all its benefits. Down the line, his versatility might give him a chance to get on the field sooner than some others.
