Manstedt played three seasons with the Huskers — earning All-Big Eight honors twice — and was a member of the 1971 National Championship team. He was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame in 2012.
Manstedt, a Wahoo, Nebraska, native was the Houston Oilers’ first selection in the 1974 NFL Draft in the fourth round, No. 79 overall. He never suited up for the Oilers however, choosing to sign with the Birmingham Americans in the World Football League instead.
After two seasons with the Americans, the Washington Redskins purchased Manstedt’s rights prior to the 1976 season. Manstedt also played with the New Orleans Saints before a neck injury in 1977 ended his career.
These are the players who built Nebraska football.
