Cade Otton received an offer from the Huskers on Jan. 22, 2016. It was his first FBS offer.

Otton made his first visit to Nebraska the weekend of June 10.

Cade's grandfather, Sid, is the head coach at Tumwater HS and is the winningest high school coach in Washington history. Sid's high school coach was Bud Riley, the father of Nebraska coach Mike Riley. Sid Otton has known Mike since he was an 8-year-old ball boy for his father.

"Mike's dad always had a passion for the game, and Mike has the same thing," Sid Otton told The World-Herald. "I think the world of Mike."

Riley has another connection to the Otton family. Cade's uncle, Brad Otton, was the quarterback at USC when Riley was the offensive coordinator there.

And there's more football in Cade's blood. His other grandfather played collegiately at BYU, and his father is the defensive line coach at Tumwater.

Nebraska seemed in prime position to land Cotton until he landed an offer from Washington on Aug. 4. About a week later, on Aug. 12, he committed to the Huskies.

As a junior in 2015, Otton helped lead his high school to the state championship. He plays both sides of the ball and caught 26 passes for 500 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior, and while playing linebacker had 138 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, four sacks and a couple interceptions.

He also plays basketball for his high school.
