Just hours before Nebraska's first Friday Night Lights camp under Scott Frost in Lincoln, the Huskers landed their ninth commit in the 2019 class.
Ronald Thompkins, a four-star according to 247Sports and ESPN, announced on Twitter he's committed to Nebraska.
Thompkins is a 5-foot-11, 195-pound running back from Loganville, Georgia. He attends Grayson High School, where junior linebackers Mohamed Barry and Breon Dixon went. There are currently 12 players in the 2019 class from that school committed to Power Five schools.
Thompkins held 20 scholarship offers, including schools like Alabama, Penn State, LSU, Tennessee and USC. He recently took official visits to Penn State and LSU.
As a junior, Thompkins ran for 414 yards and four touchdowns. He averaged 6.6 yards per carry and had two games with more than 100 yards. He also caught nine passes for 201 yards.
Thompkins is the second-highest rated commit in Nebraska's 2019 class, trailing only four-star quarterback commit Luke McCaffrey. The commitment bumps Nebraska up to the No. 9-rated recruiting class in the Big Ten and No. 31 class in the country.
Nebraska now has three running backs in the 2019 class. Thompkins joins three-stars Rahmir Johnson and Thomas Grayson.
These are the players who built Nebraska football.
