Barret Pickering received an offer from the Huskers on April 14, 2017. It was his first scholarship offer. He announced his commitment on May 2.
That offer came while Pickering was on Nebraska's campus. He made his first visit to Lincoln for the Huskers' spring game on April 15. Afterward, he spoke highly of the visit in an interview with Husker Online.
As a junior in 2016, Pickering made 20 of 27 field goals with a long of 50 yards.
Pickering ranks as the second best kicker in the nation, according to Kohl's Kicking. He was also a first-team All-State selection in Alabama as a kicker and was named a MaxPreps junior All-American.
According to a scouting report by Kohl's Kicking:
"He is a smooth field goal kicker who hits clean rotation and has great command of his ball flight. Focus this winter and spring will be on his leg strength and hang time on KO's but he showed well at the nations premier gathering of talent. His elite coordination allows him to shows flashes of great punting ability as well.
These are the players who built Nebraska football.
