Garrett Nelson received an offer from the Huskers on June 16, 2017.
He was the second in-state player in the 2019 class to get a Nebraska offer. It came after he had a standout performance at the Huskers' Big Man and Friday Night Lights camps.
“I felt extremely blessed to receive an offer (from Nebraska) right away,” Nelson said in an interview with The World-Herald. “The coaches on Friday felt more like friends than actual coaches.”
His father, Chris Nelson, was an All-America wrestler at Nebraska and NU’s most outstanding wrestler in 1992.
Garrett Nelson had 67 tackles during his sophomore season in 2016, including 8 for loss and 5 sacks.
