Simmons was one of NU's top remaining targets in the 2016 class. He received personal attention from head coach Mike Riley, who visited him during the first contact period.
Simmons had the Huskers among his initial list of finalists. But that got a shakeup when after the dead period ended, Simmons landed two major offers — Michigan and Clemson. Those two teams made up his final three with Nebraska.
The Huskers were believed to be Simmons' leader until Clemson entered the fray, and they managed to land him over NU when he announced his commitment on Feb. 2.
