Kearney athlete Isaiah Stalbird has committed to Nebraska. Stalbird is the fifteenth known in-state walk-on commitment in the 2018 class.
"Right now it is unreal," Stalbird said. "The opportunity to play for Coach (Scott) Frost and be a part of the turnaround of the program is something special. I'm ready to get to work."
The 6-foot-1, 196-pound athlete was a 2017 first-team All-Nebraska defensive back recording 53 solo tackles, two sacks and two interceptions on defense. He had 22 receptions for 393 yards and six touchdowns as a wide receiver.
He chose to walk on at Nebraska over scholarship offers from Division II schools UNK and Wayne State. He also had a preferred walk-on offer from Wyoming.
Stalbird will start out as a defensive back when he gets to Lincoln.
"I think the plan is for me to start out at safety," Stalbird said. "I am going to do whatever it takes to get on the field. I don't care who they line me up against."
Stalbird has been an underdog most of his life, and that is the mentality he'll bring to the Huskers.
"Most of my life life people have doubted me," Stalbird said. "This is a tremendous opportunity for me to prove people wrong again."
These are the players who built Nebraska football.
