Lincoln High senior John Goodwin is the 21st — and 18th in-state — known walk-on in Nebraska's recruiting class.
The 6-foot-3, 250-pound tight end committed to walking on at Nebraska two weeks ago. Unlike most prospects he didn't announce his commitment on social media and has kept the commitment quiet.
Goodwin played fullback and tight end in his career at Lincoln High. He played in only four games his senior season catching seven passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns due to a knee injury.
"It is close to my family and I've watched Nebraska since I was little," Goodwin said. "(Nebraska) is the best chance for me to grow as a football player and for me to be my best on the field."
Goodwin chose Nebraska over scholarship offers from NAIA schools Morningside and Midland. He took multiple game day visits to Nebraska and unofficial visits to Kentucky, Kansas and Iowa Western in his high school career.
Nebraska recruited Goodwin at either a fullback or tight end.
"As a walk-on I will have a chip on my shoulder and I like that," Goodwin said. "I like the strength and conditioning program at Nebraska and they treat walk-ons just like everybody else."
These are the players who built Nebraska football.
