John Parrella was a part of three Big Eight title teams after walking on with the Huskers in 1988. He eventually became a team captain by his senior year. Parrella was second on the team that season with 77 tackles, including 11.5 sacks for loss and five sacks, earning first-team All-Big Eight honors.
He was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame in 2001.
Following Nebraska, Parrella was a part of three Super Bowl teams, one each with the Buffalo Bills (who drafted him in the second round in 1993), the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders. He finished his 12-season NFL career with 26.5 sacks and more than 400 total tackles.
Parrella became the defensive line coach at his alma mater in 2016.
