Pernell Jefferson committed to Nebraska on Jan. 23 while on campus for an official visit.

The Huskers were a late bloomer in his recruitment because Jefferson committed to Oklahoma in August. Though NU offered Jefferson before he made that pledge to the Sooners, nothing really materialized between the two until January.

Things worked quickly though, and the Huskers managed to land his commitment.

Jefferson is a consensus three-star prospect and the No. 65 outside linebacker, according to the 247 composite.

Fits the defensive body-type profile this coaching staff seems to have an affinity for, the versatility of which could enable him to fit at various spots depending on future need and body development. In the meantime, could be among a host of similar-sized special teams demons groomed to make future kickoff and punt coverage units a strength. Hits with force — he caused four fumbles his senior year — and plays well in traffic with a magnet for the ball carrier. Decent speed for size and excelled in big-boy high school football in Louisiana. That’s a good start.

Below is the Jefferson's tweet from when he announced his commitment:
