Former Husker player and coach Monte Kiffin is leaving the NFL to join his sons on the Florida Atlantic coaching staff.
Monte's son Lane Kiffin was named the FAU head coach earlier this year, and his other son, Chris Kiffin, is the defensive coordinator. It has not been reported what role Monte will have at FAU.
Monte Kiffin, a Lexington native, played at Nebraska in the early 1960's then became a graduate assistant from 1966-72 before serving as defensive coordinator from 1973-76.
Kiffin spent last season as a defensive assistant for the Jacksonville Jaguars but was not retained by new head coach Doug Marrone. Before that he was on the Dallas Cowboys staff from 2013-14.
This will mark Kiffin's first return to the college game since he was the assistant head coach at USC from 2010-12.
